Past companions

Greetings Robin,
I didn't bring a cat into my life until I was in my thirties and now I don't want to live without sharing my life with one. Many have since shared my home (once twelve at one time) and too many (one is too many to my heart) I had put to sleep because of illness or being poisoned. I've often wondered if any of them have reincarnated to my present companions.
Or maybe, it's because Rufus keeps coming up that I wonder if any of my companions is him reincarnated.
Would you be able to tune in and tell me? It's not important.
Namaste,
Christie

Thank you Robin & Martha!

Thanks so much for taking my email about Dex. It surprised me that he is reincarnated from my biological family, but then again, it doesn't. I've often thought of our childhood dog, Lady, a beautiful red cocker spaniel. Anyway she is what immediately came to mind. My Dad was also raised specialized "coon" hounds before moving to Colorado that people came from miles around to buy. He had made a name for himself raising these dogs. It will be interesting to see if Dex was from one of these times, or maybe both. Looks like I have more work to do!!!
Much love to you both!
Sue

Vintage Cat Adoption Special

http://renton.komonews.com/news/pets/763491-purrfect-pals-offers-discoun...

St. Patrick is a 13-year-old kitty looking for a home.
Purrfect Pals seeks homes for cats that are considered “unadoptable” by overcrowded public shelters, including older, “vintage” kitties.

To encourage families to consider adopting a more experienced cat, Purrfect Pals is offering a special reduced adoption fee of $50 for cats who are seven years or older. Bonded pairs of “vintage” cats will be reduced to $75 instead of the usual $150. This special ends July 31.

“Our adoption centers are filled with vintage cats and we hope this promotion will encourage potential adopters to consider the benefits of an older pet,” says Connie Gabelein, Executive Director at Purrfect Pals. “If we can adopt out more adult cats this month we will be saving not only their lives, but the lives of more cats in need of rescue.”

Purrfect Pals cats are looking for homes at the following local pet stores:

Why breed wolves?

http://www.wsbtv.com/ap/ap/environment/pups-born-to-oregon-wolf-packs/nP...

By JEFF BARNARD

The Associated Press

While judges on the Oregon Court of Appeals consider whether to authorize state biologists to kill two wolves for preying on livestock, the Imnaha pack has been going about its business, producing four pups this spring.

At least two and perhaps all four of the packs in northeastern Oregon have produced pups this year, bringing Oregon much closer to a milestone in restoring the predators wiped out to protect livestock.

But the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is still a long way from winning over ranchers to the idea of more wolves, largely because of ranchers' frustrations over the lawsuit from conservation groups.

The groups sued after the department issued a kill order last fall for two Imnaha wolves for killing cattle. The order has been suspended while the groups' challenge is heard in court.

"The environmental groups and the ranchers helped craft this (Oregon Wolf Management Plan), and we're trying to live by the wolf plan and the environmentalists sue," said Bill Moore, a cattle rancher in Baker County and past president of the Oregon Cattlemen's Association. "If they'd taken care of the problem when they could have, we wouldn't have problem wolves teaching these pups to kill sheep and cattle."

Wallowa County rancher Rod Childers added the department has not always followed through on killing problem wolves, even when there were no lawsuits blocking them.

"If you want to talk acceptance by the ranchers, they've got to do what they tell us they'll do." he said.

Steve Pedery of Oregon Wild said ranchers in wolf country have been slow to adopt proven non-lethal measures for protecting their herds, such as putting out lines of fluttering material to scare off wolves, hiring range riders to keep an eye on herds, and burying carcasses of dead cows.

"The wolf plan called for using lethal control as a last resort," Pedery said. "As soon as there was much political heat from Wallowa County last year, the leadership of ODFW, in our view, decided to kill the Imnaha pack to try to placate some of the anti-wolf feeling. We think that's illegal."
He added that beyond the question of killing problem wolves, there is a fundamental disagreement over the idea of wolves.

"Some people see these animals and see a symbol of wilderness and freedom and correcting mistakes made over the years," Pedery said. "Other people see them and see what their dads and granddads conquered to put the land to use. The actual animal is sort of lost in it."

Following GPS positions from radio collars on wolves, biologists two and a half weeks ago walked in a rendezvous site for the Imnaha pack on the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest and the den site for the Wenaha pack on the Umatilla National Forest, said Russ Morgan, wolf coordinator for the state wildlife department. Four pups, each about 6 weeks old, were spotted with each pack.

Morgan said the four pups with the Wenaha pack looked at him for a moment, then went into their den. There were no adults around.

He added biologists have not gotten a look at the Snake River or Walla Walla packs, but they likely produced pups as well.

If all four packs have produced pups, that would be a major step toward the Oregon Wolf Plan's Phase One recovery goal of four packs producing pups three years in a row.

Once that happens, the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission could take them off the state endangered species list, giving the state greater powers to kill wolves that attack livestock.

After several confirmed attacks on livestock by the Imnaha pack, the department decided last fall to shoot the alpha male and one other wolf to reduce the threat to local livestock. Conservation groups sued, claiming that would violate the state's wolf restoration plan, and threaten the survival of the Imnaha pack, the first to produce pups in Oregon since wolves introduced in Idaho started coming into the state in the 1990s.

Soon after the kill order was issued, one young wolf left the pack, making his way to Northern California. There have been no reports of wolf attacks on livestock by the wolf known as OR-7 since he left the pack.

Who would steal a hawk from the back of a car?

Rufus the Hawk, a Wimbledon Fixture, Stolen

ABC News’ Sydney Lupkin reports:

The hawk that patrols the skies over Wimbledon tennis courts to scare away the pigeons that interfere with play has been stolen, UK Metropolitan police told
ABCNews.com

Rufus, a 4 ½-year-old Harris hawk, and his cage were stolen out of a car either Thursday night or Friday morning in Wimbledon, according to police spokeswoman Kate Campbell. The car was parked on a private driveway, and a back window was cracked open for air, she said.

In addition to patrolling the skies at Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships, Rufus was a family pet, Campbell said, adding that his owners are “distressed” over the disappearance.

Rufus was contracted to work at Wimbledon — and a few other pest patrol gigs — through Avian Environmental Consultants. Avian’s blog even features a photo of Rufus from last year’s tournament.

Using birds of prey to ward off pigeons has been a practice at Wimbledon since 1999, according to Avian. Rufus circled before and after the athletes took to the courts to scare the pigeons, but not to attack them. His presence alone kept them away.

The hawk has become a regular character at Wimbledon. He even has his own twitter handle, @RufusTheHawk, which has more than 500 followers and often uses the hashtag #SquawkYouLater.

Today, @RufusTheHawk addressed worried fans.
“Hello lovely Twitterers, no news yet, but we must be hopeful,” the tweet reads. “Thank you for your kind and lovely words, they’re much appreciated ‪#findRufus.”

Do you believe that animals know earth changes are coming?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2003/oct/02/thisweekssciencequestions....

While there's plenty of evidence that some dogs behave strangely just before natural disasters, most researchers agree that it's hardly a systematic method of prediction.

Japanese doctor Kiyoshi Shimamura announced this week that for years he has noticed a jump in dog bites and other dog-related complaints before and after earthquakes. He examined records of complaints from public health centres in western Japan affected by the 1995 earthquake in Kobe, a disaster that killed more than 6,000 people.

He found that accounts of dogs barking "excessively" went up by 18% on average in the months before the earthquake. Above the epicentre on Awaji Island, there was a 60% increase in complaints compared with a year earlier. Later this month, he will present his idea that dogs are somehow sensitive to impending earthquakes to the Seismological Society of Japan.

Scientists have a hard time predicting earthquakes. "We do not have the technology to really predict earthquakes in the sense of when, where and how big," says Sarada Sarma, an engineering seismologist at Imperial College in London.

So he is suspicious of the idea that dogs have some sort of prescience. "The animals do feel something, that is a fact," says Sarma. "But it does not have to be necessarily earthquakes." Dogs bark for all sorts of reasons, he says, so who knows whether an earthquake is on the way or if the poor animal has merely not been fed that day? Some animal biologists have suggested that dogs could react to high-frequency sounds coming from the straining of rocks in a fault, Not possible Sardar says, as usually the rocks make no such sounds.

Other researchers suggest that the dogs may be reacting to tiny changes in electromagnetic fields or the microscopic deformation of the ground before quakes. But unless you are a dog, none of this is easy to prove.

Shimamura's work is even being regarded with caution in Japan, where there have already been several attempts to understand the behaviour of animals before earthquakes.

What is on the last episode of The Dog Whisperer with Cesar?

http://www.southcoasttoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20120707/ENTER...

July 07, 2012 12:00 AM

Cesar Millan enters the ninth and final season of "The Dog Whisperer" (8 tonight on Nat Geo Wild) with a four-episode trip to London. There he discovers that British canines can be as unruly as their American cousins, while their owners are just as delusional and frightened. Millan, as usual, behaves like the alpha human, straightening out the leash-holder's fuzzy, frantic thinking, so the dogs can relax and behave.

After his stint across the pond, Millan will return to California, where his New Age, "take control of your life/take control of your dog" mantra is much more at home. Look for Millan's encounters with such pack leaders as Kelsey Grammer, Jillian Michaels and Hugh Hefner before he ends his run and whispers no more.

Hi Robin,
This is SueAnn, I don't know if you can help clear any negative engery from me and my family. A few days, my daughter Michelle got hit by another vehicle, she's ok. Yesterday, I got rear ended while sitting at a stop light. It was a pretty hard hit. Luckily, i am ok too, just a bit sore and stiff. Thank you very much.
