How Do You Know that your Grandchild Loves You?

8.18.12 Jacob is 3 & I know that he loves me
My grandson Jacob left me the sweetest message yesterday at 4:00 pacific coast time. He said,
“Twyla, pick up the phone!”
When I didn't he yelled a little louder.
“Twyla, pick up the phone!”
I heard Jacob's mother whisper to him in the background,
“Jake, you are talking to an answering machine. She can’t hear you.”
He responded,
“That is not true!”
Jake yelled really loud,
“Twyla, pick up the PHONE!!!!!!!”
When I didn’t he said with such sweet compassion,
“Tywyla, I hope you feel better!”
My heart was so moved I placed my hand over it.
Then Jake said,
“Twyla, call us back.”
I did but Jake and his Mom didn’t answer.
I feel loved by my grandson. I am going to record this voice mail and keep it for as long as I am alive. When I feel down, as some days we all do, I will play this for myself to lift my spirits.
I would love to hear from you. What stories can you tell me about your grandchild?

My grandson, Logan, shows me
My grandson, Logan, shows me he loves me by being really interested in my life and really gets into whatever conversation he is having with me. If he has a buddy over at his house and his Mom ran to the store for a minute, he will still answer the phone if I call just to tell me, "Sorry, Grandma, but I was just about to go ride my bike with my friend, Can I call you later?" and that's when I was really calling to talk to his Mom, my daughter. He could have just let the answering machine get my call.
When he was very little, even as young as 2, he was learning all the different makes and models of cars. He even knew each and every farm and construction vehicle there was. He would ask me what one was and then have to tell me what it was because I didn't know! He was very opinionated about which make of cars were the best ones....I drove and still do drive a Toyota, not one of his favorite kinds of cars. I had to take my son Todd into an early colonoscopy when he was having severe medical problems. That morning, I grabbed food for Todd to eat on the way home from his procedure. Somehow the milk I took fell over and leaked out on the back seat of my Rav4. Spilling milk in your car and having it get into the cloth seats and foam beneath makes it sour and smell like soured milk. Telling this story to Logan to explain why my car smelled and how I was trying to get the smell out, he replied, "Well, I told you, you had a stinkin Toyota!" He is always the jokster and always entertaining while being loving and respectful. And he makes you feel acknowledged. That's how I know he loves me.
